Self-Evaluation

The guiding question for this unit is:
How can we use technology to address global warming?

There are many ways to teach about global warming to other people. You can make a movie or an infomercial, an internet post, a picture or just and informative essay. You can also raise peoples awareness on how to stop or slow down global warming. This is a complicated issue because the only way to stop global warming is to stop the greenhouse effect which mostly causes global warming. That would mean to limit the amount of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and this is possible. Carbon dioxide comes mostly from burning fossil fuels. If we stop that we can slow down global warming.

The Area of Interaction for this unit is Environments. This was a good choice because we are making infomercials for the Planet and focusing on nature.

When I did my research I thought through many questions. Here are some:
- Why do polar bears need ice to survive?
- How does Global warming affect polar bears?
- How can we save polar bears?

I have also found answers to these questions. Polar bears need ice to survive because they spend almost their whole lives on ice. They build dens, raise their cubs and hunt on ice. Global warming affects polar bears mostly by melting the Arctic ice which is very important to polar bears. Air pollution also affects polar bears. The only way we can ensure the polar bear's survival is by ending or at least slowing down Global warming so that they can adapt.

I've learned many things through my research. I've learned that polar bears spend most of their lives on ice. I've learned that the polar bear is the largest bear in the world. There are 20, 000 to 25, 000 polar bears in the world and they have one of the lowest reproduction rates from mammals. I've also learned that polar bears are on the top of the Arctic food web.

I'm happy with my performance in this unit because I've done my best in almost everything. The only thing I could have done better is the Design Brief. I think I had too much information on it because I added everything from my research. I should have concentrated on the other parts of the assignment.

I think my motivation, independence and general positive attitude have been satisfying. I've done my best in all my work. I've worked independently most of the time except sometimes I've asked help from my mom. I've been positive about the work and completed all the tasks.

I think I've done well on my safety, cooperation and respect for others. I've listened to the teacher's instructions and completed the activities. I've cooperated with and helped my peers. I've also been respectful to others in class.
