Matchbox Travel Games Criterion A

Today we started a new unit called Match Box Travel games. The unit question is: "Why are games so well loved by people af all ages in cultures around the world?" I think this means: why do people enjoy games so much and why are they so popular? What is it that makes games addictive? Why do we always want to win? The AOI is Health and Social Education because when we play games we socially interact with others. One of the questions for Health and Social is "How do we think and act?" and this explains how we think and act when we're playing games and what is the role that games have in the society. The Learner Profile for this unit is Open-Minded because we need to understand our own culture and appreciate other cultures and traditions. We are learning about popular games in various cultures. The final project for this unit is a travel game that will fit into a matchbox. We can choose a miniature game from another culture or make up our own games. We will test them by playing them in class.

I think this unit is important because we all play games or have at least in some stage of our lives played games. We are finding out why we enjoy games and why do people from other cultures like to play games. We are also looking at how different values affect the games that people play. For example the game Monopoly is all about money and so businessmen might enjoy this game because they are familiar with the subject. I think this project is also relevant because some games are a problem in the world today. For example video games have become an issue when teenagers play too much and it's not healthy.
